Stina Persson (SWE)

Stina Persson has studied fine art in Perugia and fashion drawing in Florence, Italy. She has a degree in
illustration from Pratt Institute in New York.

Persson: “I am doing everything as originals. I work mainly by hand, but I usually use the computer to assemble my images or finish them up. Doing without the computer was harder than I thought, but in the end it was more than worth it: a lot of inspiration that had laid dormant was brought back to life. Ideas kept coming.”

She mixes different techniques around watercolours and ink: cut paper, vector, drawing, photography. That makes original and glamorous fashion paintings with some sixties touch.

When thinking of the concept of style in contemporary European fashion illustration, Persson’s work represents the best aesthetic features of the classical approach. It embraces feminine sensitivity, immediate and impulsive brush stroke, lambent colours, and freely flowing and blending surfaces that are paradoxically enough still under the creator’s control. Her art is beautifully imperfect.

She was awarded the Society of Illustrator’s Student Scholarship in 1996 and 1997, and she has exhibited her works in New York and Tokyo.

Her clients include Coca Cola, Absolut Vodka, Godiva Chocolatier, Sony Music, Blue Note Records, Atlantic Records, Macy’s Department Store, Bloomingdale’s, UNIQLO, American Eagle Outfitters, Volvo Japan, Björn Borg Clothing, DKNY, Face Boutique, Iben Høj Clothing, Target, Vogue Nippon, Harper’s Bazaar, Flaunt, Elle UK, Marie Claire, Madame, Madame Figaro, Nylon Magazine and Squint.
